Polarized lenses have a coating that actually has little slits in it running up and down, which blocks out light that has reflected off of flat surfaces (like a lake or wet pavement) because those are horizontal light waves and can’t fit through the vertical slits in the coating. You see the other light, but not the useless reflected light that would just blind you. So when you look at the flat surface, you can see the road (not the reflection of the sky) or the fish under the water, for example.http://oakley.com/technology/polarized/

It keeps more UV Rays out, which helps your vision.

Polarization also reduces glare, as it blocks a lot of the light reflected from surfaces, such as water and glass.
