first cut the split ends before it get worst !!! your hair might look better after a little cut of the split ends.
if the hair is really dry use hot oil, VO5 has a the oil and good hair treatment products and not that expensive (I'm from Holland and VO5 is not expensive here)
maybe it's possible to get free samples

kerastase has a brand value... but you really dont need to fork out that much
clairol herbal essences in weighty and strong, is really good... for damaged hair, as it has hot oil in it!
pantene shampoo conditioners for dry and damaged/color treated hair gives almost the same result.
give it a shot

i use kerastase products regularly, and yes they are expensive. the shampoo and conditioner are concentrated so you don't have to use as much. my hair is chronically over-processed (i love highlighting) so i find these to be good on my hair.
another product i like to use use ( i switch it up each time i wash my hair) is PHYTO. i use one called phytokarite this one is for extremely dry hair. i find the phyto product to be the best for dry hair (you know what i mean if it feels like tangled hay when it gets wet).
both of these products are expensive, and they come in small bottles, compared to grocery store shampoo. you don't have to use as much because the way these upper end shampoos are designed. i also don't wash my hair every single day, so one bottle of shampoo from either of these brands usually lasts me about six months.
if your hair is color treated use the kerastase that is in the bright pink bottle (specifically for colored hair) or use one in the orange bottle (for normal to dry hair.)
